Smoking Trial A Bonus for Non-Smoking Carnival Cruise Passengers

Smoking Trial A Bonus for Non-Smoking Carnival Cruise Passengers

It has emerged that Carnival Cruise Lines are testing a new non-smoking policy which will restrict smoking areas within their cigar bars and alternative lounges. Welcomed by non-smoking passengers who previously have had to avoid smoking rooms, the new policy being tested includes disposing of many former areas where smoking was allowed, restricting individuals to alternative arrangements.A constant debate within the cruise holidays sector the tested policies have been welcomed by some and criticised by those not wishing for the habit to affect their breaks.
On many Carnival liners access to the onboard internet cafe is only provided by walking through cigar lounges, an option which many non smokers were not happy with. Changing cigar smoking spots on the Carnival Glory, Carnival Destiny and Carnival Freedom passengers will now have to take to a sports bar or outside deck space until a final decision is made.Speaking of the changes to restrict smoking areas Carnival’s senior cruise director, John Heald, expressed the cigar bars on Carnival Glory, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Destiny are now totally 100% non-smoking and on other classes of ships some lounges that were smoking are now non-smoking.
Now, no final decision has been made and won’t be for some time. However, whilst many may criticise the move Carnival’s policies on smoking are already far less restrictive than those that many cruise companies operate, with many banning smoking indoors altogether.Smoking is becoming more and more unacceptable in public places, policies on board cruise lines have in the past varied considerably, this is now becoming more standardised, as travellers attitude towards smokers are being taken on board by the cruise lines.

The Past, Present, and Future Cruise Ship

The Past, Present, and Future Cruise Ship

Consider getting yourself and your family a luxury cruise vacation. On a particular date of departure, you will embark one of those first-class, hotel-alike cruise ships for the rest of your vacation. It will serve as your sailboat, temporary home, shopping center, massage parlor, entertainment center, and so on. A cruise ship can house all of these and other amenities in an urban area. Yes, it can. It makes a cruise a vacation not only an escapade to remember but also as an excellent option for your next holiday. Cruise ships, or also known as cruise or luxury liners, are passenger ships used for pleasure voyages. The voyage itself and the amenities, which can be found on-board, are all essential part of the cruising experience.
The rapid growth of cruising in the travel industry prompted cruise lines to build modern ships that will cater to the needs of the growing number of cruise passengers. It includes itineraries to transatlantic destinations, where engineers and sailors designed cruise ships that can survive different sea-related conditions. History and Development The famous Titanic is one of the ancestors of cruise ships today, which houses fine dining areas, well-appointed staterooms, and other amenities needed by the passengers on-board. During the late 19th century, Director Albert Ballin of the Hamburg-America Line was the first individual to conduct a regular practice of sending his transatlantic ships on long southern trips during the worst winter condition in the North Atlantic. Others followed, building specialized ships made to withstand summer and winter cruising conditions. Other cruise destinations were introduced, like to the islands of Caribbean and through the Mediterranean. Thus, newer ships were built to accommodate cruises for these areas. Not only as a ship, it is also used as propaganda to promote cruising vacation.
It raised the awareness of cruises as a vacation option not only for rich individuals but also for ordinary people in the United States. Cruise Ships Now In 2004, there are several hundreds of cruise ships, which have a carrying capacity of over 3,000 passengers and displacing over 100,000 tons. Thus, it is the largest ships ever built. It can cruise to destinations as far as Antarctica. Modern ships are also considered much of a boating hotel? with a complete staff in addition to the regular cruise ship crew. These ships are also designed to handle adequate provisioning of foods. Cruise ships serve thousands of meals at each setting. Storage facilities for raw ingredients and beverages are equipped with the latest in storage technology. Cruise ships can consume foods and beverages more can you expect on an average seven-day voyage. For instance, the passengers and crew of the ship Mariner of the Seas by Royal Caribbean International can consume 20,000 pounds of beef, 28,000 pieces of eggs, 8,000 gallons of ice cream, and 18,000 slices of pizza in a week.
Currently, Queen Mary 2 is the biggest ship at operation. It has 151,400 gross register tons and owned by the Cunard Line, one of the subsidiaries of the Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise ship company operating today. This British cruise liner is 1,132 feet long, 236 feet high, and can carry 2,620 passengers. It is capable of venturing through the North Atlantic at a speed of 30 knots. Queen Mary 2 has five on-board swimming pools, sweeping staircase, a ballroom, a 360-degree promenade deck, and different specialty shops. It is built to revive the glamour of ocean liners, which business has almost sunk when jet travel started its prominence across the Atlantic route. Cruise Ship of the Future Recently, the Royal Caribbean International announced last February 6, 2006 that they will be releasing in the fall of 2009 the largest and the most expensive cruise ship in the world, which amounted to an estimated price of $1.24 billion.
It is named Project Genesis, which can also hold up to 6,400 passengers. It is estimated to have a gross register ton of about 220,000. A gross register ton that is the standard measurement of a ship size, is equivalent to 100 cubic feet. The $1.24 billion cost will cover all the expenses required for interior finishing of the ship. Now, what can you expect more from these cruise ships?

Was Carnival Cruise Lines Splendor’s Engine Room Knocked-out by a Chinese Sub EMP Weapon

Was Carnival Cruise Lines Splendor’s Engine Room Knocked-out by a Chinese Sub EMP Weapon

Conspiracy Theories are everywhere, so why can’t I make one up occasionally? Okay, thank you for your permission to join the conspiracy theorist instigators. Perhaps, I have an over active, Science Fiction screenplay writers mind on odd or even days. Anyway, let me run one by you, one you will be intrigued by.
Let’s have some fun, you can debunk all this later, but for now, you have to admit, we don’t know what happened or why?
An interesting segment recently on ABC TV titled; “Stranded cruise ship towed to San Diego port,” on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 – by Leslie Sykes and Eileen Frere explained the ordeal when the cruise ship’s engine room caught fire, and stranded passengers 200 miles off the coast with no power, the ship literally dead in the water, and the US Navy had to fly out supplies. Perhaps, you remember this incident. The powerless ship filled with cruise line tourists was basically dead in the water. Now then, it is known that the Israelis claim to have had a device capable of stopping a ship by causing its engines to cease, a ship which threatened to blow through its blockade – surely you remember the floatilla incidents in the news throughout 2010. Anyway, the ship tried to get through unsuccessfully, and it’s engines did quit.Okay so, if Israel has this technology, then so too does the US Navy, and if the US Navy has it, then surely both the Chinese and Russians do. They are quite good at industrial espionage, besides this technology is not too difficult to make considering new ways of propagating various waves underwater, including lasers.
So, did a Chinese or Russian submarine use an EMP device (electromagnetic pulse weapon device) to render that ship dead in the water only 200-miles off the coast of Santa Barabara, merely to prove they were there to US Naval Intelligence, as a warning? So, there is today’s conspiracy theory, prove me wrong – this one is only for the serious debunker, all others need not apply. Please consider all this.

Topical Island Sailing Adventures Aboard the Suwan Macha From Phuket

Topical Island Sailing Adventures Aboard the Suwan Macha From Phuket

Picture this! A sun-drenched glistening sea of green scattered liberally with exotic islands speckled with powder-white sandy beaches and harboring concealed lagoons and secret coves. Sounds like a fantasy land, a scene from Peter Pan but this is the cruising ground for a 4 day sailing adventure on board the Suwan Macha in Thailand; paradise it is, fantasy it is not. This short cruise holiday takes places aboard the Suwan Macha, an Asian rigged traditional junk with distinctive burnt sienna sails that today navigates a route from Phuket Thailand to Phang Nga Bay, Krabi and the Phi Phi Islands before reversing her course to go back to Phuket with a fresh set of lucky island hoppers over another 4 day tranquil family sailing cruise among the off-lying exotic islands of Phuket. The Suwan Macha

With 5 cabins, the Suwan Macha can sleep up to 10 vacationers and sails with a qualified skipper and crew. Things are personal, slightly intimate but relaxed on-board this traditional junk which merges Asian world allure with Western amenities. The Suwan Macha just accentuates the fairy story surroundings and looking at her is almost dream-like as this magnificent Oriental yacht sails majestically atop the verdant sea portraying an entirely ageless profile of lines and distinct colours. Most visitors to Thailand flock to Phuket yearly and some of those take to the seas to visit the bounty of off-lying islands on day tours or on live-aboard dive boats but not many have the chance to experience this exotic island boat trip free from the hordes and in complete harmony with the surroundings. While salvagers have trolled the oceans for buried treasure, the Suwan Macha is a treasure in itself and a junk sailing cruise that takes you to explore and discover natural treasures like hidden lagoons, secret sandy bay’s, mangrove forests and a small community of Sea Gypsies that still exist separated and independent from the general population of Thailand.Suwan Macha Adventure Sailing

This tropical island sailing cruise can be done from Phuket to Phang Nga Bay and onto Krabi and the Phi Phi Islands or in reverse; the first option departs on Saturdays and the latter on Tuesdays but either way the cruise begins from the front door of your Phuket hotel. If you opt for the reverse cruise we collect you from your hotel and transfer you to the ferry which whisks you from Phuket to the Phi Phi Islands where you will board the Suwan Macha.Cast off, Castaway and James Bond (Day 1)

But let’s start out from your Phuket hotel and join the Suwan Macha after a short drive to the Phuket Yacht Haven where she is moored. Departure time is 2pm and you will be onboard with plenty of time to spare.Mooring lines are cast-off and the Suwan Macha plots a course for Phang Nga Bay weaving her way through towering limestone karsts and inching ever closer to the ever popular James Bond island that was put firmly on the chart in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). Otherwise known as Koh Tapu the island is part of the Ao Phang Nga National Park and after taking time to explore the island the day trippers flee for home leaving the Suwan Macha in peaceful harmony.Drop anchor, kick back and prepare for a picture postcard sunset before enjoying a feast of Thai food for dinner taken on the teak decks.Sea Gypsy’s, Hidden Lagoons and Powder White Beaches (Day 2)

There is nothing quite like waking up on a sailing yacht (or junk!), coming up on deck to experience Nature in all her glory and in amongst the rock karsts of Ao Phang Nga National Park, the visual impact is awe-inspiring. Breakfast is served on-deck before guests are invited to explore a unique Sea Gypsy Village and experience a boat ride through the mangroves in search of hidden lagoons. After visiting the Sea Gypsy’s, sail onwards and southwards to the clear green waters of Krabi. This is time to stretch out on the sun-soaked decks whilst enjoying icy cold cocktails and the panoramic splendour of the tropical view. Today also exemplifies the real benefit of yacht sailing as the Suwan Macha discovers deserted powder-white beaches for swimming, snorkeling and some private sun-bathing.As the afternoon draws to an end clients are treated to their second Andaman Sea Sunset followed by a table laden with Thai Food to enjoy beneath the stars on-deck.Yacht Sailing from Krabi to the Phi Phi Islands (Day 3)

one more morning, one more anchorage, one more feast for the senses topped-up with breakfast on-deck! The theme today is Tropical Island hopping. The ultimate destination is Koh Phi Phi but between there and the anchorage in Krabi are scattered many smaller islands and a chance to snorkel, swim and sunbathe occur in series.Once at Koh Phi Phi, guests have a chance to go ashore to explore before returning to yacht in time to catch their final Andaman sunset aboard the Suwan Macha followed by the now ubiquitous smorgasbord of Thai food served up on-deck.The Beach, the Bay and Return (Day 4)

As Koh Tapu became a lure for tourism after being featured in The Man with the Golden Gun, Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Ley seduced viewers movie-goers by its astonishing, hypnotic and mesmerizing beauty when it became the backdrop in the 2000 drama film “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Maya Bay is the final destination for the Suwan Macha 4 day cruise.Unfortunately Maya Bay now attracts boatload after boatload of tourists on a daily basis who descend on “The Beach” for a glimpse of paradise. Having anchored in close proximity, the Suwan Macha has the upper-hand though and by making an early morning visit guests are spared the life jacket-clad hordes. After visiting Maya Bay and exploring the cave guests of the Suwan Macha enjoy lunch on Koh Phi Phi before returning to Phuket by ferry.Sailing Adventures from Phuket

Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, is bathed by the Andaman Sea. Most tourists know Phuket for its entertainment value and it reverberates with opportunities for adventure sports, eco adventures and recreational activities, embracing both water sports and outdoor activities on land. Phuket is also acclaimed for its nightlife, in places slightly hedonistic, but that scene is contained and easily avoided if neon lights and gyrating bodies are not your scene and Phuket has a positively epicurean side.Inaugurated in 1987, the annual Kings Cup Regatta propelled Phuket into becoming the headquarters of Yacht Sailing in Asia and it remains the largest and most popular regatta in the region today. And in the wake of the Kings Cup Regatta leisure sailing has boomed with private yacht ownership, flotilla sailing holidays, corporate sailing and sailing schools all now available all-year-round, although November through to April is the official Phuket Yacht Sailing season.Needless to say, the sailing grounds near Phuket are immensely beautiful. Don’t expect Fastnet or Sydney to Hobart conditions but if you are looking for gentle sailing vacations that offer island hopping and adventure sailing in profusion then Phuket Sailing Vacations make for a very inspired alternative to the more typical Phuket holiday formula. Sailing vacations in Southern Thailand are also perfect for Families with kids and provide end-to-end entertainment with swimming, snorkeling and island adventures each and every day.The Suwan Macha is but one option where Phuket sailing holidays are concerned and this authentically shaped, Asian rigged traditional junk, exuding oriental world charm but with enough Western creature comforts, is a perfect platform for family cruises in and around the islands and she can also be chartered outright.

Why We Still Value Clipper Ships

Why We Still Value Clipper Ships

As trade flourished between different parts of the globe in the 19th century, it was important to have an efficient and speedy means of transport for goods. The clipper ship was the answer. These were very fast vessels with numerous large sails. They did not have the capacity for carrying a large amount of cargo but their speed was their greatest attribute.
The most famous of these ships were built by the British and Americans but they were popular in European countries too.The British had various colonies, which they wanted to exploit to the full. Ships sailed on trading routes between Europe and the East. Cargo was very valuable, especially tea from India, silk from China and spices from various countries. The Tea Clippers were particularly fast and had elaborate sail systems.
The most famous of these is the Cutty Sark, currently in dry dock in Greenwich, England and a popular tourist destination. Of the clipper ship fleet that still remains, this is the ship that is best preserved.Other routes were also in demand , such as the Trans-Atlantic passage and the route between New York City and San Francisco. In addition to cargo transport, the ships were used to carry passengers and mail. The public was thrilled with the romance of these sailing ships that flew through the waves. Previous commercial shipping had not managed to achieve 5 knots but the clipper ship’s target was 9 knots; this was often exceeded.
The different ship owners were extremely competitive with each other and newspapers entertained the public by publishing the speeds of the main vessels. Pirates and smugglers also took advantage of these ships, glad of the speed and maneuverability that they offered. The ships were in constant service and were usually salvaged after 20 years of use. The golden age of the clipper ship could not last forever, as modern innovation overtook it. Steamships gradually became dominant, for passenger travel and cargo. Steam Clippers were employed for a while, a combination of sail and steam engines. The reliability of the steamship, not dependent on the wind, was ultimately preferred.
This was brought to a head in 1869 when the Suez Canal was opened. This gateway to Asia was ideal for the steamship but was unsuitable for sail. The public of today is still fascinated by the world of sail and the clipper ship. Certain ships have passed into folklore, such as the Marco Polo, that achieved a 60 day round voyage between England and Australia. These ships have become museums, allowing us an insight into the past glories of sail.
